Quebec City Travel Guide

Must-See Attractions & Hidden Gems

If Montreal feels like a piece of Europe in North America, then Quebec City feels like stepping directly into a storybook. Walking through its streets for the first time was genuinely magical; it’s a city that wears its history on its sleeve, with fortifications, cobblestone lanes, and architecture that make you feel like you’ve traveled back in time.

What immediately captivated me about Quebec City is that it’s the only fortified city north of Mexico, a UNESCO World Heritage site that has done an incredible job of preserving its past. From the moment I saw the iconic Château Frontenac perched majestically on Cap Diamant overlooking the St. Lawrence River, I knew this place was special.

Exploring Quebec City is all about slowing down and soaking in the atmosphere. There’s the charming Lower Town (Basse-Ville), home to the incredibly picturesque Petit Champlain district with its narrow streets, unique boutiques, and a truly European feel. Getting between the Upper Town (Haute-Ville) and Lower Town often involves climbing (or riding the funicular!), and the views you get along the Dufferin Terrace, right by the Chateau Frontenac, are simply breathtaking.

Beyond the famous landmarks, I loved discovering the smaller details – the intricate architecture, the little squares, and the sense of history around every corner. The Plains of Abraham, a significant historical park, offers vast green space and incredible views, a reminder of the city’s pivotal past.
