Toronto’s waterfront is pretty amazing, but sometimes, it’s nice to get away and explore new places. Luckily, Ontario has a ton of gorgeous beaches within driving distance, each with its own special vibe. As a beach enthusiast, I love sinking my toes into soft sand, catching some waves, or just having a fun day out with the family. Whether you’re looking for a serene escape or an action-packed outing, there’s a perfect beach waiting for you!

Woodbine Beach

01. Woodbine Beach: Toronto’s largest beach, Woodbine Beach, is one of my favorite spots for a lively day out. It offers a vibrant atmosphere with volleyball courts, picnic areas, and a scenic boardwalk. I love people-watching and soaking in the buzz of the city by the lake, making it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the energy of Toronto.

02. Cherry Beach : Cherry Beach offers a chill vibe with stunning lake views, making it one of my favorite spots in Toronto. I love spending time building sandcastles, relaxing on the sandy shore, and soaking up the sun. This beach boasts a unique history and natural beauty, though amenities are limited and the water can be a bit chilly. Despite that, it’s an ideal location for a serene and unique beach day in Toronto.

03. Sugar Beach :  Sugar Beach offers a vibrant escape in Toronto. Think colorful umbrellas, striped rocks, and a splash pad – all beside the Redpath Sugar Refinery! It’s perfect for people-watching, relaxing by the lake, or letting the kids cool off. No swimming here, but Sugar Beach brings a playful twist to your Toronto beach day.

The beach is perfect for leisurely strolls, volleyball games, and family outings. The adjacent Kew Gardens provides lush green space and playgrounds, enhancing the appeal of this urban beach. The vibrant community and nearby cafes and shops make it a delightful spot to spend the day.

I often come here with family and friends because the beach area is well-maintained with picnic spots, walking trails, and a marina. The calm waters are suitable for swimming and paddling, while the picturesque surroundings make it a popular spot for photography.

I had an amazing time swimming and basking in the sun on this expansive beach. It caters to everyone, from families with kids playing in the shallow waters to thrill-seekers renting jet skis. Just a heads-up—parking can be tricky during peak season, so plan accordingly!

I spent the day basking in the sun, walking along the sandy shores, and swimming in the clear waters of Lake Ontario. The view of the city skyline from the beach was stunning, providing a perfect backdrop for relaxation. Hanlan’s Point Beach offers a peaceful escape from the city, and I left feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

The town nearby is filled with charming shops, delightful restaurants, and lively bars, ensuring a vibrant and enjoyable experience every time.

I particularly enjoy hiking along the park’s scenic trails and admiring the unique sand dunes. The nearby quaint towns offer charming shops and eateries, making it a perfect spot for a relaxing getaway. 

Once you arrive, plan to spend a full day at the park to fully enjoy its beauty and amenities. However, if you’re traveling during peak seasons or weekends, it’s advisable to arrive early to secure parking and make the most of your visit.

Beyond the beach, explore the charming town of Fort Erie, where you can visit historical sites like Old Fort Erie or enjoy a leisurely stroll along the scenic Friendship Trail. Crystal Beach is the perfect destination for a memorable day trip or weekend getaway.

Families will appreciate the designated swimming areas and the playground, ensuring fun for all ages. Beyond the beach, explore Cobourg’s charming downtown area, home to quaint shops, cafes, and restaurants. Don’t miss the chance to stroll along the scenic boardwalk or visit nearby attractions like Victoria Park and the historic Victoria Hall.
